In Memory

Alex Walker

Alexander Walker Jr.

( March 10, 1948 - January 12, 2024 )

Alexander (“Al”, “Spyder”) Walker, Jr. passed away at the age of 75 in the early morning hours of January 12th, 2024 at Kennestone Hospital.

Born in Bryn Mawr, PA on March 10th, 1948 to Lillian (neé Brennan) and Alexander Walker Sr., Al was the older brother to Janice and Mark. He was active in boy scouts growing up and took any opportunity he could to surf in Ocean City, NJ. He was an avid soccer player, and whenever there was a break in school, you could find him working in his dad’s tile shop.

Al attended his beloved Park College from 1966 to 1970 where he played varsity soccer and earned a BA in History and Political Science. It was at Park College where Al garnered the nickname “Spyder” for climbing on various buildings on Park’s campus.

After graduating college, Al went on to work for Lowes in Atlanta. It was in Atlanta, specifically the Quail Creek apartments, where he met and fell in love with his wife of 44 years, Christie. They married on August 4th, 1979, and lived all over the south - including Alabama, Arkansas, and Louisiana before eventually moving back to Georgia, where they’ve lived in Woodstock for the past 33 years. Through his tireless work at Lowes, they traveled to many places including Bermuda, Portugal, and the Bahamas. Al went on to work at Brand Scaffolding in the early 1990’s before joining Drexler Glass where he eventually retired in 2013.

In retirement, Al enjoyed making knives, visiting with his Dunkin’ crew, coaching his fantasy football team, ceramics, and helping any friend out in need. Al was a talented craftsman, capable of building just about anything. He had a wicked sense of humor, and never once met a stranger.

However, Al’s greatest accomplishment in life is his daughter Alex. He taught her the value of comedic timing, committing to the bit, shared his love of soccer, passed on his stubbornness, and was her biggest cheerleader throughout her life.

He joins his mother Lillian, father Alexander Walker, Sr., sister Janice, and brother Mark. He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Christie, his favorite (and only) daughter, Alex, his brother-out-law, Tom Ryder, nephew Jamie and wife Wendy Ryder, niece Missy and husband Sam Pierce, great-nieces and nephews, and many, many friends.

A visitation and memorial service will be held at Lakeside Funeral home in Woodstock, GA on Sunday January 21, 2024. Visitation will begin at 1pm and the memorial will follow at 2:30pm. Following the services, the family will have a reception at their home.

I was saddened by Alex's passing.  He and I spent many after-school hours together during our years at Haverford High, and he was a positive addition to every group!  His sense of humor and interest in cars we could only dream of owning are fond memories. We traded emails over the past several years, but never got together in person, which I sincerely regret.
